On May 26, the university officially kicked off its fourth annual Popular Science Week, jointly organized by the Office of Scientific Research, the Institute of Engineering Research, and the School of Microelectronics and Data Science. The opening ceremony was attended by Zheng Liping, member of the university’s Party Standing Committee and Vice President, as well as Zhao Rong, Vice Chairman of the Ma'anshan Association for Science and Technology. Representatives from key university departments, including the Party and Administration Offices, Publicity Department, Student Affairs Office, Youth League Committee, Graduate School, and faculty and student representatives from the School of Microelectronics and Data Science were also present.

In his remarks, Vice President Zheng emphasized the need to earnestly implement the central government’s major strategic decisions on scientific and technological innovation. He urged participants to focus on the theme “Committed to Innovation-Driven Development, Building a Strong Nation Through Science and Technology,” and to treat Popular Science Week as a meaningful platform for cultivating scientific literacy and inspiring young minds. He encouraged students to stay in step with the times, align their aspirations with societal progress, and resonate with the people—to become fellow travelers in scientific innovation, practitioners of the spirit of science and technology, and ambassadors for the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Zhao Rong offered his sincere congratulations on the successful launch of the event. He encouraged students to be bold in asking questions and fearless in pushing boundaries, fostering a mindset of innovation as a daily habit. Zhao emphasized the importance of embracing the mission of spreading scientific knowledge and promoting the scientific spirit, reminding young people that they play a vital role in driving national scientific progress. He called on students to take active responsibility for improving public scientific literacy and to contribute their intellect and energy to the advancement of Chinese-style modernization.

During the ceremony, certificates and letters of appointment were awarded to student winners of science popularization activities, newly appointed volunteers for the Anhui Provincial Science Popularization Base, and outstanding individuals recognized for their achievements in technological innovation within the School of Microelectronics and Data Science.

Following the ceremony, faculty and student representatives visited the “Popular Science Mini-Fair” and the Anhui Science Education Base’s Physics Demonstration Hall. Through hands-on interaction with scientific exhibits, participants gained a first-hand appreciation for the charm and impact of technological innovation.

The week-long event will feature a variety of engaging science outreach initiatives, including scheduled science lectures in local secondary schools, community-based science services tailored to public demand, and interactive mini-fairs offering curated scientific experiences. These efforts aim to widely promote scientific knowledge, the spirit of inquiry, scientific thinking, and rational methods, contributing to a vibrant societal culture that values, understands, and applies science in daily life.(Written by: Zhou Wenxiao.
